Mount Evans has been slated as North America's highest peak with a paved road to its summit, consequently it is a popular destination for motorists wanting to drive a Colorado fourteener as opposed to hiking one. The road ends at 14,130 feet and a short hike from the parking area takes you to the summit at 14,264 feet. This week I ventured out to look for mountain goats but instead was awestruck by the abundant fields of alpine wildflowers. Apparently the right combination of rain and summer heat has orchestrated a full symphony of alpine flowers this year!
